Border opening to Germany, Switzerland and Liechtenstein

For the border with Germany, the Austrian federal government, in coordination with the German federal government, has announced full opening for June 15th.

    Current entry requirements to Austria

Cross-border travel is currently not possible or only to a limited extent. The following regulations currently apply to entering Austria:

Persons entering Austria must submit a medical certificate stating that they have had a negative test for COVID-19. The medical certificate must not be older than four days upon entry. Transiting through Austria without a stop is permitted. Austrian citizens or people who have their main or secondary residence in Austria enter without the test if they commit to a 14-day home quarantine. The Ministry of the Interior provides information on details and other exceptions, for example for trans-national commuters.

Please keep in mind that not only the Austrian regulations are in effect, but also the regulations in your respective home country. Please inquire with the responsible authorities about the provisions on departure, transit, and return.

    Arrival by plane and train

    Flight connections

The airports of Vienna, Salzburg and Innsbruck operate with a limited flight plan. Austrian Airlines will resume flight operations from June 15th.

Please inform yourself promptly at your airline whether a planned flight is actually departing.

    Important information for air travellers:
Vienna airport now offers the possibility to undergo molecular-biological COVID-19-Tests (PCR test) directly on site at the airport. The test findings are available within a period of about three hours. Please note that it is necessary to arrange an appointment and that this service entails costs. All details are available here.

    Train connections

Cross-border long-distance train traffic between Austria and Italy, Slovenia, Switzerland, Slovakia and the Czech Republic has ended. Train traffic between Austria and Germany and Hungary is restricted.
